The weather was nice so I decided to head out to Burlington with my mom and pay for my Dad's Bench that'll be placed at Spencer Smith Park. The benches are really nice, the plaques are machine engraved and will last a lifetime. The benches have a 15-20 year lifespan and once the bench needs to be replaced, the main contact will have the option of paying for a new bench with a new plaque or just taking possession of the old plaque.
The cost is $5,000.00 which is pretty steep but I do get a donation receipt that I can use towards a tax deduction in 2025 and I've come to learn that the benches at Spencer Smith Park cost more than $5,000.00 each so the city is subsidizing some of the cost of the bench.
I could of had a bench placed in Oakville but they wanted an upfront fee plus an annual fee. I didn't want to pay the annual fee so I decided to place a bench in Burlington. The family and I frequent Spencer Smith Park 3-4 times a year so it'll be nice to go and see the bench every time we visit.
There weren't any spots left on the water, so I had to settle for a bench facing the water and the Lady of the Lake Sculpture. It's closer to Lakeshore than the water but It's a nice quiet spot in the park near the kids play area.
I feel like putting this bench in the Burlington/Oakville area will bring me comfort when I need it most. When I'm feeling down and missing my father, I can visit the bench and just talk to him while looking at the lake.
I miss you dad, now and forever.
