Financial + Asset Acquisition Goals

  1. Reach the top 1% in income in Canada by the end of 2026/27. In 2024 that would be roughly $550k. I expect that number to be in the 600's by 2026/2027 and if I stay focused, I have a high likelihood of achieving this goal.

  2. Reach Top 5% in net worth in Canada by the end of 2030. Katie's potential is very limited because she's a teacher so we will be relying on the business to hit that target. Katie and I would both need to have $980,000.00 to be in the top 5%. We're not far off as it is but very optimistic that we will achieve that goal by 2030.

  3. Pay off the house in 2026.

  4. Purchase or build a warehouse for IHB. The goal is to have a multi unit storage facility, occupy some of it for my business and rent out the remaining sections.

  5. Purchase a condo on the water as our retirement home.

Health Goals

  1. Row 5,000 metres 3-5 times a week. Currently I'm able to row 5,000 metres but my form isn't where I want it to be. Aiming to make this permanent in September of 2024.

  2. Walk 10,000 steps a day + 20,000 steps twice a week. Working towards this routine, aiming to make it permanent starting in July of 2024.

  3. Get my weight down to 190. The best I ever felt was when I weighed 185-190. I really need to get back to that weight range. It might prove challenging at my age but I now have the time and the willpower to do it. Aiming to go from 265 to 190ish by the end of 2025.

  4. Get rid of the mole near my eye. It used to be flat but over the past ten years, it's popped out and I'd like it removed. Aiming to get it down in June of 2024.

  5. Get a vasectomy. Katie wanted to stop producing little ones the minute we had our second child. I on the other hand, have had mixed feelings about it for many years. Never pressured her into having a third, but just didn't want to make it permanent but I'm now ready to get the job done. Aiming for September/October of 2024.

  6. Taking a cold plunge once a week. I've started taking cold showers but I'd like to take it to the next level.

  7. Go to the gym three times a week. Will begin after our 2024 summer vacation.

Travel

  1. Travel to a minimum of 20 Ontario cities per year. We probably do 30+ a year just with our little weekend outings.

  2. Do 1 cruise per year with the family.

  3. Do a 2 month long East Coast Trip in my lifetime

  4. Do a 2 month long West Cost Trip in my lifetime.

  5. Visit my dad every 10 years.

  6. Visit my mom 4 times a year.

  7. Stay at the Pearl in Burlington every year for my Birthday.

Katie is the seasoned traveller and is the one that motivates me to travel. With trips through school, she's traveled to some really incredible places and I'm always supportive of her going school trips to see new and exciting places.

Now because she's a teacher and I only work during the winter, we're going to be able to take advantage of these summers to travel. While the kids are young, we plan on travelling mostly within Canada and the US. But as they get older, we want to start traveling all over the world. So far we have the following destinations on our bucket list:

  1. Japan

  2. Ireland + Scotland + Maybe the city of London

  3. South Korea

  4. Vietnam

  5. Iceland

  6. Northern European Cruise

  7. A Mediterranean Cruise

  8. Spain and Portugal trip

  9. Italy (Katie has Been twice I think)

  10. France (Katie Has been)

  11. Maldives

  12. Bora Bora

  13. New Zealand + Australia

  14. Cuba

  15. Turkey + Morocco

  16. Greece (Katie Has Been)

  17. China (Katie Has Been)

  18. Indonesia

  19. An African Safari

  20. Antarctica (I want to go but Katie doesn't)

  21. Peru

  22. Uruguay

  23. Argentina + Brazil

  24. Panama

  25. Hawaii (will be going when the kids are out of the house)

  26. Alaska

With the way the business is going, Katie has an opportunity to retire 10 years early so that way we could start our traveling journey in 5-6 years but she's committed to working till she's 55. Not only that but she wants to be a department head taking on even more responsibility during a time when she doesn't need to. I'm really proud of her and I'm so lucky she came into my life. We'll maximize our travel during the summer months, do some really cool local trips during the Christmas break and when she retires, we will downsize to a condo and explore everything this amazing world has to offer.

Personal Goals

  1. Get a bench in my dad's honour at Spencer Smith Park. I've always wanted to honour my father by funding a bench in the Burlington/Oakville/Mississauga area. I wanted the bench to be near the water and a place that the family and I can frequent 4+ times a year. An opportunity has opened up at Spencer Smith Park and I'm going to finally honour my father in a thoughtful and meaningful way.

  2. Get my french back to an acceptable level. I can understand and read French fairly well but I haven't written or spoken much French in the past 10+ years. I don't think it will take much for me to get it back so I'm determined to get it back within the next 12 months. My children are also very interested in French and I'd like to help them as much as I can.

  3. Volunteering and giving back to the community. I know I'm really fortunate to be in my current situation. When I was in College/University, I was volunteering frequently with different organizations. Now that I have more free time, I'd like to get back to volunteering to better my help my community. Over the past 6 years, Katie and I have donated over $35,000.00 to different charities benefiting children in need. I have a long term goal of donating $10k+ per year to different local charities and possibly starting up some scholarships in french High Schools across Brantford, Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville.

  4. Spending as much quality time with my family as possible. During the past 10 years, I haven't been around as much as I'd like for my children. Katie took on most of the parenting and I would help out when I could. Now that I have the time, I really want to be an amazing father to my children and shower them with the love and family experiences that they deserve.
